With J.K. Dobbins headed for free agency next month, the Denver Broncos are expected to target the running back position this offseason.
Even if Dobbins returns on another short-term deal, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Broncos still draft a running back in April. In his latest 2026 NFL mock draft for RosterWatch, Cody Carpentier has Denver adding a running back in the second round after selecting Georgia linebacker CJ Allen in the first round.
With their second-round selection, the Broncos pick Arkansas running back Mike Washington (6-0, 228 pounds). He spent the first three seasons of his college career at Buffalo before a one-year stint at New Mexico State, followed by a fifth and final season at Arkansas.
Washington had a career year last fall, rushing 167 times for 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns. He could be a candidate to join RJ Harvey in Denver's backfield this fall.
The 2026 NFL draft will be held in Pittsburgh from April 23-25. After receiving two compensatory picks, the Broncos will hold nine selections this spring.
