The Police in Kano, Friday,  threatened to arrest anyone who violates the ban on Durbar and horse-riding activities in the state.

The threat was sequel to renewed controversy and tension sparked off in the state by attempts by the two contending Emirs, Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero to embark on Durbar procession and horse riding ceremony despite their ban by the state government

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, gave the warning on Friday during a press conference held at the Bompai Police headquarters of the Command.

Bakori stressed that the executive order banning all forms of Durbar and horse/animal-riding in public places was still in force and binding on all persons irrespective of status.

He declared that that any person, institution or organisation that intends to undertake any form of Durbar or horse-riding in a public place must give at least 72 hours prior notice in writing to the State Police Command.

He explained that the notice will enable the Command to conduct all the necessary security assessments and make adequate arrangements for public safety.

He cautioned that the threats which necessitated the ban on these traditional activities were were still potent.

“We cannot afford to allow any act that will breach the peace and jeopardize public safety,” Bakori however added.

He disclosed that the Police, in conjunction with other security agencies, were resolute and united in enforcing the ban, while urging residents to comply strictly with all lawful security directives and cooperate with security agencies.
