Youth Confab 2026: Tinubu urges Nigerian youths to speak their minds

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian youths to freely express their views on national issues and propose alternative solutions where they disagree with government policies.

Tinubu made the call on Friday while announcing the opening of the National Youth Confab 2026, saying young people should play an active role in shaping decisions that affect their lives and the country’s future.

In a statement posted on his X page, the president said the conference was designed to give young Nigerians more than a token presence in discussions about national development.

“When I proposed this Confab, I wanted young Nigerians to have more than a seat in the room. Your experience and ambition should help shape the decisions that affect your lives,” he said.

Tinubu encouraged participants to speak honestly about their concerns and support their criticisms with practical alternatives.

“Say what you think. Where you disagree with us, say so, and bring the alternative with you,” the president stated.

He added that the government’s responsibility was to listen to young people and take action on recommendations considered worthy of implementation.

The president also disclosed that virtual consultations would continue for two weeks, allowing young Nigerians to participate regardless of their location, including those living outside the country.

“The virtual consultations run for the next two weeks and are open to you wherever you are, at home or in the diaspora,” he said.

Tinubu expressed his expectation that the consultations would produce recommendations that could contribute to policymaking and national development.

“I look forward to receiving your recommendations and giving them the serious consideration they deserve,” he added.
