On Saturday afternoon, the BC men’s basketball team will face off against the SMU Mustangs in Dallas as they go on a roadtrip to close their 2026 regular season. BC is still riding a losing streak that is now at seven games, while SMU has won 3 of their last 4.

Leading the Mustangs on offense are their upperclassmen guards,

junior Kevin Miller and senior Jaron Pierre. The team, and especially Miller, are very effective from three-point range. They rank in the top-20 nationally in 3P%, with Miller and senior forward Corey Washington both shooting over 40% from beyond the arc. That floor spacing opens up the rest of their offense, too, so there are more wide open lanes to drive into and score under the basket. The SMU offense scores over 86 points per game, which is also top-20 in the nation.

Defense is where SMU can be exploited. Their fast pace of play often opens up scoring opportunities for their opponents on the other end of the court. Not only do they take a ton of quick shots, but the Mustangs also can go through stretches of turnovers and fouling, opening themselves up to blown leads and quick shifting games. BC’s best course of action would be to slow down the pace of play, control possessions, and force turnovers. If they can dictate the pace of the game, SMU will look mortal and won’t be able to quickly rack up a lead like they are so effective at usually.
