Team USA and Canada have both known overtime at these 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
Will they see OT again in the gold medal game? There's certainly a chance.
On Sunday, the U.S. scored in the first period with Matt Boldy. Cale Makar equalized in the second period for Canada.
Depending on what happens in the third period, there could be more overtime.
How has Canada done in OT?
Canada has played two overtime games just to reach the gold medal game.
They beat Czechia in overtime in the quarterfinal on a Mitch Marner backhand goal.
They then beat Finland in the semifinal on a Nathan MacKinnon shot from the left slot.
How has USA done in OT?
Team USA needed overtime in the quarterfinal, too.
Taking on Sweden, Quinn Hughes found a way to scoring position and slotted it home for the walk-off win.
Is overtime different in the gold medal game?
Only a little bit. It's still 3-on-3.
The only difference is they put 20 minutes on the clock.
Can there be a shootout?
Not in the gold medal game.
They would just put more time on the clock and keep playing.
But if these teams get to overtime, it's highly improbable that the skill level of these guys at 3-on-3 would last 20 minutes without a goal.
