Speaking in comments shared via 5ReasonsSports, Pippen Jr. said, “I thought it was kind of a cheap shot. He kind of hit me when I didn’t see him, so I thought it was a soft move.

“I just thought he maybe needed a hug on the other end. That’s what happened.”

The confrontation began in the closing two minutes, after contact away from the ball escalated tensions. Gardner approached from the backcourt and collided with Pippen, knocking him off balance. What followed was a heated exchange that quickly intensified.

Pippen retaliated by shoving Gardner toward the sideline seating area, drawing immediate intervention from teammates, coaching staff, and arena personnel. Both players were separated and ejected as security ensured fans were kept clear of the scuffle.

Pippen added: “I don’t expect anything. I don’t think any punches or anything were thrown. I think it was, like I said, a hug. I don’t think it was too crazy. I got ejected. I think it should be left at that, but we’ll see.”

While Pippen characterised the incident as minor, league officials may still review the sequence under NBA conduct rules.

Physical altercations that spill toward spectators can carry automatic suspension considerations depending on intent and escalation.

No injuries were reported, and order was restored quickly. The game concluded without further incident, but the exchange is likely to remain under scrutiny as the league evaluates the closing moments.

For now, Pippen Jr. appears to believe the ejection should mark the end of the matter.
